All staff are trained in Paediatric first aid. Many staff have training in Makaton and try to use this as much as possible with the children.
Elklan was established in 1999 by two experienced speech and language therapists Liz Elks and Henrietta McLachlan (hence Elklan); in response to a demand for training to be delivered by speech and language therapists to education staff to enable them to be more effective in their support of children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).
At Seedlings we are very fortunate to have 2 trained Elklan practitioners; these are Aimi and Sarah.
Their training provides them with a range of strategies at their disposal which can be used to support children's communication whatever and wherever they are being taught. Feel more confident in interpreting SaLT (speech and language therapists) reports and programmes which means they can be implemented more easily and effectively.
They can implement through their skills to:-
- Understand why children have difficulty learning to talk
- Know how to help your child understand what you are saying to him or her.
- Interact at an appropriate level with your child.
- Know how to help your child develop his or her talking.
- Change the way you speak to your child so that s/he understand more of what is said.
- Support a speech therapy programme your child has been given to follow.

The pre-school has a key person system. This means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom they are particularly responsible. They will make sure that what the pre-school provides is right for your child's particular needs and interests. When your child first starts at the pre-school, their key person will help your child to settle and throughout your child's time at the pre-school, they will help your child to benefit from the pre-school's activities. Each child at Seedlings Preschool will have a learning journey that develops with them.
