More than 35 years experience in the construction industry both in civil engineering and in building. I started my career training with Taylor Woodrow in the North of England on multi-million pound contracts as a site engineer in early seventies. I then quickly moved on to become senior site engineer with Pochin Contractors of Middlewich on major contracts including the new Metropolitan University in Manchester City Centre. During these years I gained invaluable experience in leading a team of engineers as well as much hands-on experience in concrete technology, site programming and man management. My career with Pochin’s was dispersed with overseas experience as section site engineer in South Africa working on the SASOL 2 multi-billion pound oil-from-coal project. My duties included overseeing the reinforcement steel bending division and the pre-cast concrete production division on this massive construction project. On my return to England I took up site management with Pochin Contractors where I gained further valuable experience in all aspects of site management including programming and sub-contract co-ordination.
In the late eighties I became involved in city centre developments and refurbishments for a large development company as the client’s representative procuring sites and advising and negotiating on contract terms and conditions. Since then I have worked for HBOS Commercial Developments throughout the United Kingdom as Special Projects Manager procuring and co-ordinating contractors and managing the interface between client and developer. In the late 1990’s I became more involved in providing strategic contractual and commercial advice to developers and contractors including negotiating final accounts.
I have been Sole Principal of Pye Associates since 2001 and now represents contractors as a claims consultant in both arbitration and adjudication proceedings. My extensive practical experience gives me a distinct advantage in understanding the problems faced by contractors in analysing delays and presenting claims and my engineering and site management skills enable this to be done in a most clear and simple format. I was appointed to the main panel of arbitrators with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 2004 and with the main panel of adjudicators with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 2006.
Since then I have worked closely in areas of law, claims avoidance and seminar presentations with other construction consultants and in 2007 an affiliation was formed between Pye Associates and Harvey Associates of Bolton. The combined expertise of the two practices now offer a complete range of consultancy services to the construction industry not only in building and civil engineering but also in the petrochemical and engineering industries.
